RRB Section Controller 2026: Frequently Asked Questions
1 What is the job profile of an RRB Section Controller?
A Section Controller is the traffic manager of a defined railway section, working from the Divisional Control Office. They monitor and control train movements, coordinate with station masters and loco pilots, manage train schedules during disruptions, and handle emergency situations to ensure safe and punctual railway operations.
2 Can candidates with LASIK surgery apply for Section Controller?
No. Candidates who have undergone LASIK or any other corrective eye surgery are NOT eligible for the Section Controller post, as it requires the A-2 medical standard. The vision requirements are strict and non-negotiable.
3 What is the weightage of CBT and CBAT in the final merit list?
The final merit list is calculated using CBT (70% weightage) and CBAT (30% weightage). Only candidates who qualify the CBAT with a minimum T-Score of 42 in each test battery are considered for the combined merit list.
4 Is there negative marking in the CBAT?
No, there is no negative marking in the CBAT. However, there is also no relaxation in the qualifying T-Score of 42 for any category, including SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/ExSM/PwBD. Failing even one test battery disqualifies the candidate.
5 What documents are required during Document Verification?
Candidates must produce original certificates along with two sets of self-attested photocopies. Required documents include graduation degree certificate, Class 10 certificate for date of birth proof, category certificate (if applicable), PwBD certificate (if applicable), and valid photo ID.
6 What is the career growth path for a Section Controller?
The promotion path includes Section Controller → Senior Section Controller → Chief Controller → Deputy/Divisional Control Superintendent. Further promotions lead to Group B and Group A (Traffic/Operating) positions through departmental exams and seniority-based selections.
7 What is the Vision Certificate requirement for CBAT?
Candidates must produce the original Vision Certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure VI for general candidates, Annexure VI-A for Ex-Servicemen) at the time of CBAT. Without this certificate, candidates will NOT be permitted to appear in the CBAT.
8 How does RRB normalization work for the CBT?
RRB uses a percentile-based normalization method since the CBT is conducted in multiple shifts. Raw marks are converted to normalized percentile scores to ensure fairness across shifts with varying difficulty levels. The normalized score is used for shortlisting candidates for CBAT.
9 What is the shortlisting ratio for CBAT and Document Verification?
Candidates are shortlisted for CBAT at 8 times the number of vacancies (RRB-wise), based on CBT merit. For Document Verification, shortlisting is done at a 1:1 ratio of the vacancies for that specific RRB.
10 Can I change my RRB zone after submitting the application?
No, the RRB zone cannot be changed after the application is submitted. Candidates should select their preferred RRB carefully during the application process, as multiple applications or applications to more than one RRB are liable to be rejected.
